In 2000, the Public Awareness Committee of Philadelphia
Mental Retardation
Services developed a web-based resource directory for individuals with
disabilities, family members, staff of MR provider agencies, advocates and
the general public. If you would like to be a part of the Committee or for
more information, e-mail us at
info@mycitymyplace.com The Directory links the people served by the MR
system with needed
resources, supports choice, self-determination and inclusion, and offers
connections for families, agencies, the public and the human service
system.
MyCityMyPlace is a resource for the Family-Driven Support Services
Program, family support groups, Support Coordinators, and staff
working in related human service systems (public education, aging, health
care, early
intervention, housing) to link people with disabilities and their
families to needed resources, both specialized and generic (community).
The Resource Directory supports inclusion in the community, identifies
volunteer activities, civic initiatives, opportunities for networking,
employment possibilities, faith communities, cultural events, recreational
opportunities, and includes a community calendar, School District
regulations, resources for assistive technology, housing, health,
transportation and income resources and much more. Web pages for local and national advocacy organizations and the
services
and supports offered by Philadelphia's MR agencies are linked.
MyCityMyPlace contains a calendar, an E-announcement list, bulletin
board, and advocacy information. If you would like to receive regular
e-mail Announcements about updates to the MyCityMyPlace.com website, click

To provide access to the Internet Directory, Bell Atlantic Mobile has
generously donated IBM 300 XL's for each Base Service Unit/ CMH/MRCenter
in Philadelphia. Training for stakeholders on how to use a computer, the
Internet and the resource directory was launched in 2002.
